Selling with Charter

Horizontal machining centres are specialist production assets. The typical use case is repeat-component work, high-volume machining, and palletised manufacturing cells. Buyers focus on pallet size, pool configuration, spindle taper, control, travels, swarf management, and any automation. Mazak, Mori Seiki, Okuma and Makino attract strong interest when the package is properly documented.

Charter knows what HMCs need at sale stage, especially where pallet pools, tombstones, fixtures or linked automation are involved. Send the spec, photos, tooling list and site access details. A specialist comes back within two working days with a valuation and a recommendation on the right channel: direct purchase, buyer match, or managed sale. 0% sellers fees throughout.

Horizontal Machining Centres — sellers ask

How much is my used HMC worth?
Depends on manufacturer, year, control, pallet size, number of pallets, spindle taper, travels, tooling, fixture package, condition, and whether the machine can be inspected under power. Pallet pool systems and full production cells need closer review because the automation moves the value materially. Send the details and Charter responds within two working days.
What do buyers look for in a horizontal machining centre?
Pallet capacity, repeatability, spindle condition, control support (still backed by the OEM?), toolchanger size, chip conveyor condition, and whether fixtures or tombstones are included. HMCs are bought for specific production needs, so the clearer the spec, the faster Charter matches the right buyer set.
Can Charter handle pallet pool machines and production cells?
Yes. Single HMCs, twin-pallet machines and full pallet pool installations all sit in the wheelhouse. For production cells, we want layout, automation detail, drawings if available, guarding, tooling, and removal constraints up front. Planning the sale from day one keeps the price and timeline intact.
Do HMCs take longer to sell than VMCs?
Sometimes. The buyer pool is more specialised: pallet size, control preference and production requirements all narrow it. A well-specified HMC with a clear inspection and removal package can still move fast. Charter targets the right buyer set from the start, which is where the time saving sits.
