01. Who is Charter Machinery?
Charter Machinery is your industrial asset partner — we buy, sell, source, and value used industrial machinery for manufacturers across global markets. We're a family-run business, led by Richard and James Tomlinson, with over 60 years of combined experience on the team. Charter Machinery sits inside Charter Commercial Group alongside Charter Auctions; the same Bromsgrove-based team services every customer across the Group.
02. What kind of machinery do you handle?
We work across the full breadth of industrial machinery — CNC machining centres, lathes, sheet-metal lasers, press brakes, grinders, EDM, injection moulders, woodworking equipment, material handling, and more. We're brand-independent, so every OEM is in scope, from Mazak and DMG Mori through to lesser-known builders. There's no arbitrary age cut-off either — the question that matters is whether a machine has a buyer at the right price. Browse current stock.
03. What does buying from Charter look like?
Browse our current stock on the Buy page, or get in touchabout a specific machine. Where possible we make machines available to view in person — often powered up so you can see a live demonstration. Where in-person viewing isn't practical we provide detailed photos, video, and a full specification sheet, all given in good faith. Once you're happy with the machine, Charter can coordinate the end-to-end handover: decommissioning at the seller's site, transport, finance introductions, recommissioning at your site, even training through our specialist network. One point of contact, the whole journey covered.
04. Can Charter help me find a specific machine I'm after?
Yes — sourcing is one of the four things we do. Tell us what you're looking for (machine type, year, budget, key specs) and we'll go to work. Charter has an extensive dealer network and direct relationships with manufacturers and end-users across the UK and Europe, including operators who haven't yet put their machines on the open market. We'll come back to you with options, often including machines that aren't publicly listed anywhere. No separate sourcing fee — you pay one agreed price per machine.
05. How do I sell my machinery through Charter?
Send a few details (make, model, year, hours, a photo or two) and a Charter specialist comes back within two working days with a free, market-grounded valuation — no obligation either way. If you decide to list, Charter handles the whole sale: marketing to our global buyer network, viewings, negotiations, paperwork, and logistics through to handover. Sellers pay 0% commission on private-treaty sales. Read the full process at the Sell with Charter hub, or jump straight to a free valuation.

Buying with Charter, end-to-end
Inspections & viewings
Wherever possible, machines can be viewed in person at the seller's site or on Charter's Bromsgrove floor — often powered up so you can see them running. Where in-person isn't practical, we send detailed photos, video, and the full specification sheet so you can assess remotely with confidence. All specifications are given in good faith and verified on inspection.
Finance & transport
Charter can introduce you to asset finance specialists who work with industrial machinery purchases, and we'll coordinate transport from anywhere in the UK or Europe to your site. International shipping is handled the same way. Our partner network covers decommissioning at the seller's site and recommissioning at yours, so the machine moves cleanly from one floor to the next.
Aftercare partners
Beyond the sale, Charter coordinates the partners you'll need to get the machine operational and supported — installation specialists, training providers, ongoing servicing. All external specialists, all coordinated through Charter so you have a single point of contact for the whole buying experience.
